A Valance is a short piece of fabric which covers the curtain heading in much the same way that a Pelmet does. Where, however, a Pelmet adds more ridgid form and insulating benefits, a Valance is used more for decorative purposes enabling the underlying curtain heading to be covered and providing opportunities to dress the window treatment with contrasting or complementary fabrics.
Adding a Valance, can augment both curtain and blind window treatments. For example, in rooms which consist of vertical, venetian or roller blinds; a Valance can improve the appearance of the room by ofuscating, to a degree, the appearance of an overly rigid projection of lines and rigid geometric form.
This treatment option can be created in both traditional and modern styles with or without lining and with a variety of trims to augment the overall look of the Valance and the window treatment overall.
Valances are usually hung on either a double or tripple track or may be mounted on headboards
